Gasol lead the way for Spain


Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers center, dealth 29 points that helped defending champion Spain beat Poland. The game ended with 83-78 in it’s opening match last Wednesday at the European championships held at Lithuania.

Pau Gasol together with his brother Marc, who is also playing in the Memphis Grizzlies, conquered inside for Spain. Both of them grabbed seven rebounds each and Marc added a whopping 16 points making the win.

Ricky Rubio, a guard absorbed and signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves, did not have any success in all of the five field goal attempts in his 16 minutes of play. But he manage to get 2 steals and 2 turnovers.

Tony Parker, the San Antonio Spurs point guard, had 31 points that helped France beat Latvia. The game ended with 89-78 scores. They also beat Serbia which also lost to Spain in the game two years ago but got the chance to beat Italy with 80-78 score.

Andrea Bargnani, the Toronto Raptors center, contributed 22 points for Italy, Danilo Gallinari, from the Denver Nuggets also added 15 points.

On the other hand, Javaris Crittenton, former NBA player ignored California extradition proceedings and will be returned to Georgia.

Yao Ming’s agent asked the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to reserve his nomination for another year. Yao Ming retired in July was nominated as a game contributor. John Doleva, Hall president said John Huizinga, Yao Ming’s agent, felt it was too early for him to be in the ballot.
