Kevin Durant, The Oklahoma City Thunder ace and two-time holding NBA scoring champ made his debut on the sanctified asphalt of New York’s famous Rucker Park on Monday, and put on a performance for the ages. Playing for DC Power, Durant tallied 66 points, guiding his team to a 99-93 triumph over the Sean Bell All-Stars.
Durant did most of his damage and sent the crowd into a hysteria in the second half. He hit five straight three pointers, obviously all of which were well beyond NBA three point range, early in the fourth quarter. Altogether, Durant aced nine of his 11 three point efforts on the night.
Surprisingly, Durant’s 66 points is just the third best turnout at a Rucker Park game. Joe “The Destroyer” Hammond is the park record owner with 74 points, and back in 2007, local product and former Iona Gaels stellar Steve Burtt Jr. scored 67 in an EBC (Entertainers Basketball Classic) game at Rucker.
Former Seton Hall ace Jeremy Hazell also played in the game for the Sean Bell All Stars.
