The Lakers have contacted free agent guard Gilbert Arenas in the hope they can sign him in order to provide the sort of offensive spark that, with the exception of Kobe Bryant, has
been glaringly absent from
their backcourt this season.
A source close to the situation confirmed the Lakers' interest in Arenas, who averaged 17 points last season with the Orlando Magic.
The source also said Arenas, a former Grant High of Van Nuys standout, was interested in signing with the Lakers.
Bryant scored a team-leading 27 points on 10-for-21 shooting, but the Lakers failed to win on the road for the seventh time in eight games.
Andrew Bynum added 15 points and nine rebounds and Pau Gasol had 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Andrew Goudelock, a rookie guard, had 13 points in a reserve role for the Lakers (11-9), who led only briefly early in the game and only threatened mildly in the closing minutes. Milwaukee (8-11) led by as many as 13 points.
The Lakers also failed to score 100 points for the 13th consecutive game, their longest streak since the NBA adopted the 24-second shot clock for the 1954-55 season. The Lakers' string of 12 sub-100 games was in 2003-04. "
