"Knicks brass believes they have three stars on their roster but Team USA CEO Jerry Colangelo believes it's just two.
According to a person familiar with the decision, Knicks power forward Amar'e Stoudemire was left off the U.S. Olympic Team roster of 20 finalists partly because Team USA officials feared he was a health risk and because at this stage, "There were better players.''
Carmelo Anthony and Knicks center Tyson Chandler were among the 20 finalists. Anthony, who won an Olympic gold medal in 2008, is a London lock. Chandler has a legitimate chance being the 12th man and backing up Dwight Howard. One Team USA source said of Chandler, "He's got a chance,'' referring to Colangelo's remarks Monday that it's not always the best players making the final 12, but trying to build "the best team.''"
