Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Mavericks owner Mark Cuban rode on the back of a Ford Mustang convertible, hoisting the gold Larry O'Brien championship trophy and smiling.

Trailing him in another Mustang was head coach Rick Carlisle, fighting the glare from a sunny day with a big pair of black sunglasses.

But the biggest cheers on an impossibly clear day in Dallas were probably reserved for the biggest stars.

The Mavericks celebrated their first NBA championship Thursday with the usual festivities, including a parade through the downtown that was anchored by a float carrying Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry.

Clad in white T-shirts emblazoned with "Raise the Banner," the players waived enthusiastically to a crowd estimated to be around 250,000 people.

"Can u say PARADE? Unbelievable," Nowitzki tweeted before the celebration got underway. "Mav nation on the move. Thx so much."

After about 90 minutes, the parade ended outside American Airlines Center, where Cuban thanked the fans for making the season "amazing" and Nowitzki led the crowd by singing the refrain of Queen's well-worn "We Are the Champions" ballad.

Led by Nowitzki, who was named Finals MVP, the Mavs beat LeBron James and the Miami Heat in six games to capture the first championship in their 31-year history on Sunday.
